White Sauce Sausage Lasagna

Serves: 6 – 8


Lasagna is layers of goodness and can be made with or without pasta, with our without meat and with or without tomato sauce. This one has layers of pasta, sausage and veggies with a white cheese sauce. Absolutely delicious and even better the next day.


Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

1 pound sausage meat (hot or mild)

2 tbsp olive oil

1 cup chopped onions

1 cup chopped long or bell peppers

6 cups spinach

½ cup vegetable broth

1 ½ cup ricotta cheese

½ cup butter

¾ cup flour

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup milk

1 tbsp garlic salt or salt and pepper to taste

2 Kraft slices

½ cup grated parmesan cheese

Cooking spray

12 pieces ready to bake lasagna noodles

¾ cup grated parmesan cheese

2 cups mozzarella cheese

½ cup heavy cream


Directions

  1. Preheat oven 375°F

  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in skillet and brown sausage meat. Once cooked strain in colander and set aside

  3. Add 2 tbsp oil in skillet and sauté onions and peppers for five minutes

  4. Return sausage meat back to skillet and mix well

  5. Stir in spinach and broth and keep stirring until spinach has wilted

  6. Add ricotta and stir until everything is well mixed, take off heat and set aside

  7. In a medium saucepan melt butter and whisk in butter until it is a thick paste

  8. Pour in 1 cup cream, 1 cup milk and garlic salt and stir until paste is incorporated into liquid

  9. Add Kraft slices and stir until melted

  10. Stir in parmesan cheese and stir until well combined and thickened

  11. Spray 9 x 11 inch pay with cooking spray

  12. Pour a thin layer cheese sauce on bottom of tray

  13. Add a layer of lasagna noodles on top of sauce

  14. Spread ½ of sausage mixture on top of noodles

  15. Sprinkle with 1/3 of parmesan cheese

  16. Sprinkle mozzarella to your liking

  17. Spread half of cheese sauce over mozzarella

  18. Add a layer of lasagna noodles on top of sauce

  19. Spread rest of sausage mixture on top of noodles

  20. Sprinkle with 1/3 of parmesan cheese

  21. Sprinkle mozzarella to your liking

  22. Add a layer of lasagna noodles on top of mozzarella

  23. Place cheese sauce back on stove and stir in cream until it heats up. This will thin out the sauce a little. Pour the sauce over lasagna noodles and use a spatula to make sure all noodles are covered

  24. Sprinkle rest of parmesan cheese

  25. Top with as much mozzarella you like

  26. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for an hour

  27. Remove foil and bake until you can fork the pasta and it is cooked

  28. Depending on pasta you buy may take longer or shorter time therefore check every five minutes

Remove from heat and let sit for five minutes before serving. This is such a hearty meal that you won't need anything else as a side dish.
