“NORMAL – the usual, typical, or expected state or condition.”
It’s been eight weeks since our journey in Italy took an unexpected detour and since then we’ve been trying to find our new normal. Won’t go into details, as I need to respect my husband’s journey and privacy (and I ask everyone else does too). But how do you achieve normal when you’ve lost control and live moment by moment? Yes, it’s been hard, but thankfully the support system we have found in Italy has been guided by our angels and has made checking off boxes a whole lot easier.
The worst time to come to Italy is in July and August, why? Well, that is when everyone from Europe (and the world) comes to Italy for holidays and it makes it hard to find a place to rent. For a few weeks I didn’t know where we would land and was homeless but thankfully Crystal and Chris let me take their bed and gave me a place to regroup and find my footing and independence.
As I said my angels are guiding me and have blessed me with special people that have helped with whatever I was tackling. When I didn’t have a place to live, my first and best friend, Susy, in Stresa Italy, found me a place. Yes, old Italian, but full of charm and incredible view and was available until August 31st.
However, I needed to find a place in Arona, but after weeks of trying and getting hung up on or told I needed to lease for minimum 1 to 4 years, I thought I wouldn’t find anything. Therefore, I went into a real estate agency that had an apartment listed online. As I waited, I heard the agent on the telephone tell the person to come in tomorrow to sign the contract.
When it was my turn to talk to her, I showed her the listing and she said the person she was talking to was coming in tomorrow to book it. At my wits end, I asked her what I had to do to get the apartment today. She said, you need to provide me your documents and the deposit. Thankfully, I had the documents and the bank was across the street and I swooped in and got the apartment, sight unseen, for 8 months starting August 1st. A big win because the place is perfect for what we need.
This agent, has also become important to us. She got us a garage for the car which, for those that don’t know, parking is a premium in Italy. People that have garages will sell them and therefore you may buy a home that has a garage on the property but it isn’t yours. And street parking is either pay or up against walls that is hard to park (for me) CRAZY! So, we have a garage for “Alfie”. Another win….
Being that we are Italian citizens and had Crystal living here we were able to get our residency, but boy was that a challenge too. But of course, our angels helped with that as well and I had a wonderful lady at city hall and the man who came to check on the property for residency standards, even gave us his private cell number if we need anything. And now we have residency and most importantly our “Tessara” – Italian National Health Card and a family doctor. Major win…..
Amazon.it has become an important part of my life as I try to make the apartment feel like home. Of course, I’m buying things that are easy to move or even get rid of when we buy our own home, but for now I’m keeping busy putting together units and setting up the place for our eight months stay. Our apartment is not our home in Maple Ridge, but when life steers you on a different path then you must quickly adapt and make it work. In September, we will look at buying a home of our own but what this has taught us is that life if more precious then things. Things are tangible items that can be replaced when the reason to have them no longer exists, they serve the purpose for the now but then you move on.
Life is about living it truly understanding what is important. The family and friends that rally when you need them the most, the love between a husband and a wife, the love of kids and grandkids and mostly the love from you angels that guide you from above. Thank you mamma, papa, mamma, zia, zio, nonna and nonno. You have always guided me and continue to hold me in your hands and heart. You have blessed me with so many wins, and miracles. Love you more than you will ever know.
For those reading this blog, live life well always. We are so blessed to be on this beautiful ball we call earth. Live it moment by moment, in the now, and thank whoever you go to for spiritual support every day. It truly does make a difference.
Ricercando la Normalità in Italia

Sono passate otto settimane da quando il nostro viaggio in Italia ha preso una deviazione inaspettata e da allora abbiamo cercato di trovare la nostra nuova normalità. Non entrerò nei dettagli, poiché ho bisogno di rispettare la privacy di mio marito (e chiedo anche a tutti di farlo). Ma come si fa a raggiungere la normalità quando si perde il controllo e si vive momento per momento? Sì, è stato difficile, ma per fortuna il sistema di supporto che abbiamo trovato in Italia è stato guidato dai nostri angeli e ha reso molto più facile spuntare le caselle.
Il momento peggiore per venire in Italia è a luglio e agosto, perché? Perché, questo è quando tutti dall'Europa (e dal mondo) vengono in Italia per le vacanze e rende difficile trovare un posto in affitto. Per alcune settimane non sapevo dove saremmo atterrati ed ero senzatetto, ma per fortuna Crystal e Chris mi hanno dato il loro letto e un posto dove riorganizzarmi e trovare la mia base e indipendenza.
Come ho detto, i miei angeli mi stanno guidando e mi hanno benedetto con persone speciali che mi hanno aiutato con qualsiasi cosa che sto affrontando. Quando non avevo un posto dove vivere, la mia prima e migliore amica, Susy, a Stresa, mi ha trovato un posto. Sì, vecchio italiano, ma pieno di fascino e vista incredibile ed era disponibile fino al 31 agosto.
Tuttavia, avevo bisogno di trovare un posto ad Arona, ma dopo settimane di tentativi e, pensavo che non avrei trovato nulla. Pertanto, sono andato in un'agenzia immobiliare che aveva un appartamento elencato online. Mentre aspettavo, ho sentito l'agente al telefono dire alla persona di venire domani per firmare il contratto.
Quando è stato il mio turno di parlare con lei, le ho mostrato l'elenco e lei ha detto che la persona con cui stava parlando verrà domani per prenotarlo. Alla fine del mio ingegno, le ho chiesto cosa dovevo fare per ottenere l'appartamento oggi. Ha detto, devi fornirmi i tuoi documenti e il deposito. Per fortuna, avevo i documenti e la banca era dall'altra parte della strada e sono piombato dentro e ho ottenuto l'appartamento, vista invisibile, per 8 mesi a partire dal 1 ° agosto. Una grande vittoria perché il posto è perfetto per quello di cui abbiamo bisogno.
Questo agente, è diventato importante anche per noi. Ci ha trovato un garage per l'auto che, per chi non lo sapesse, il parcheggio è un premio in Italia. Le persone che hanno garage li venderanno e quindi puoi comprare una casa che ha un garage sulla proprietà ma non è tua. E il parcheggio in strada è a pagamento o contro i muri che è difficile da parcheggiare (per me) PAZZO! Quindi, abbiamo un garage per "Alfie". Un'altra vittoria....
Essendo che siamo cittadini italiani e avevamo Crystal che viveva qui, siamo stati in grado di ottenere la nostra residenza, ma anche è stata una sfida. Ma, naturalmente, i nostri angeli mi hanno aiutato anche in questo e ho avuto una signora meravigliosa al municipio e l'uomo che è venuto a controllare la proprietà per gli standard di residenza, ci ha persino dato il suo numero di cellulare privato se avessimo bisogno di qualcosa. E ora abbiamo la residenza e soprattutto la nostra "Tessara" – Tessera Sanitaria Nazionale Italiana e un medico di famiglia. Grande vittoria .....
Amazon.it è diventata una parte importante della mia vita mentre cerco di far sentire l'appartamento come a casa. Certo, sto comprando cose che sono facili da spostare o addirittura da eliminare quando compriamo la nostra casa, ma per ora mi sto tenendo occupato a mettere insieme unità e impostare il posto per il nostro soggiorno di otto mesi. Il nostro appartamento non è la nostra casa a Maple Ridge, ma quando la vita ti guida su un percorso diverso, devi adattarti rapidamente e farlo funzionare. A settembre, cercheremo di acquistare una casa, ma ciò che questo ci ha insegnato è che la vita è più preziosa delle cose. Le cose sono oggetti tangibili che possono essere sostituiti quando il motivo per averli non esiste più, servono allo scopo per il presente ma poi si va avanti.
La vita consiste nel viverla comprendendo veramente ciò che è importante. La famiglia e gli amici che si radunano quando ne hai più bisogno, l'amore tra marito e moglie, l'amore per i figli e i nipoti e soprattutto l'amore dei tuoi angeli che ti guidano dall'alto. Grazie mamma, papà, mamma, zia, zio, nonna e nonno. Mi hai sempre guidato e continui a tenermi nelle tue mani e nel tuo cuore. Mi hai benedetto con tante vittorie e miracoli. Ti amo più di quanto tu possa mai sapere.
Per chi legge questo blog, vive sempre bene la vita. Siamo così fortunati ad essere su questa bellissima palla che chiamiamo terra. Vivetelo momento per momento, nell'ora, e ringraziate chiunque andiate per il sostegno spirituale ogni giorno. Fa davvero la differenza.
