I love Napoleons, the creamy layers in between puff pastry. Delicious! For Valentine’s Day I wanted a twist on these therefore I’ve added strawberries, cream cheese in a puff pastry shaped as a heart. It was a big hit!
Ingredients
1 puff pastry sheet thawed per directions on package
1 package instant vanilla pudding
1 cup milk
110 grams soft light cream cheese
1 cup Cool Whip
1 cup sliced strawberries
Icing sugar for dusting
Dark chocolate or melting wafers for drizzling
Directions
Preheat oven 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Roll out pastry dough and using a rolling pin roll out a little bit
Cut out large hearts with cookie cutter
Remove the excess dough and place hearts on baking sheet
Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden, remove from oven and let cool on cooling rack
In a large bowl beat together pudding and milk until thickened
Beat in cream cheese
Using a spatula fold in Cool Whip
Cover with saran wrap and refrigerator for an hour
Cut each piece of pastry in half with a knife
Because the pastry is so delicate I use a squeeze bottle to pipe the filling on one side of the open heart. You can use a piping bag if you like as well.
Top with a layer of strawberries and then another layer of cream
Place top layer of puff pastry on top
Put a rose dab of cream on the center of each heart
Place the hearts on a nice serving tray and pile any extra strawberries on each side of tray and pipe some cream on top of each pile
Dust each with icing sugar and shave some dark chocolate on each
Melt the chocolate or melting wafers
Using the whisk make sure everything is melted and using the whisk drizzle the chocolate on top of each heart and get some on the plate too for effect
Chill for a couple of hours
Serve alone with some strawberries and cream on the side or I’ve served with a couple of my Valentine Chocolate Shortbread Cookies which complimented the dessert really well
