Biscuits that you can smother with butter or jam are delicious. These are very simple to make.
Ingredients
1 ½ cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp kosher salt
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup buttermilk (bought or recipe below)
¼ cup shredded cheddar (I used mixed)
¼ cup finely chopped ham
1 tbsp melted butter
Buttermilk recipe
You never have to buy buttermilk as it is easy to make at home.
1 tbsp white vinegar
½ cup whole milk
Pour vinegar into measuring cup and fill milk to make ½ cup
Stir well and set aside for 10 minutes before using
You can use 2% or almond milk if you prefer
Can be stored in refrigerator for 3 days
Directions
Preheat oven to 425°F and line baking sheet with parchment paper
In a medium bowl sift together flour, baking powder and salt
Add butter and using a cutter or two forks, work butter into the flour until butter is roughly pea-sized pieces
Stir in butter milk until dough comes together
Using a ¼ cup measuring cup, scoop up dough and place on baking sheet leaving 3 inches apart. Do this for half the dough
Stir in cheddar and ham in the remaining dough and continue to scoop onto baking sheet
Bake until golden brown with darker spots on edges, about 15 – 20 minutes
Brush the biscuits with melted butter and serve
