When we purchased our home in Arona we went through a major renovation. Something that didn’t sit well with me was our heating and water system because it took up a lot of real estate and I just couldn’t understand how it worked. However, the previous owners told us the government gave incentives a few years back to have the solar panel system put in as it would consume a lot less energy. They were happy with it. So, we decided to give it a try. Of course, we could always close the door and not see the ugliness of it.
Once we moved into the house we started to see some faults of the system. It would take about five minutes to get hot water in the kitchen which was on the floor above, it would take a lot longer to get hot water in the showers. As we pay for water use in Italy, our money was going down the drain without being used.
Right away we started to see white calcium build up everywhere. Now calcium is very hard to get off of things therefore I had to stay on top of all the sinks making sure it didn’t build up on them and the drains. However, when cooking that is a different story, as soon as you boil water the pots get calcified and you can’t get the calcium off. I had to throw away several pots because it was too much.
Heating the house was very challenging, there were timers built in when the heater would go on and off and nobody could figure out how to stop them. Therefore, there were times the house was as cold as the outside. Thankfully we have heated blankets.
But the worse was going into the utility room and finding yucky sticky yellow stuff all over the ground. This was the antifreeze that was in the solar panels and somehow leaking out of the boiler. It costs 1,000 euros to replace this yearly. So, I tell you, how much savings was there in this system?
Therefore, when Blu SRL - Eleonora Arreda did our second renovation, removing this system was a must. Once again Fabio and Lorenzo did an amazing job removing everything, adding new ducting and pipes, installing new equipment and teaching us how to use it. What a concept we have hot water within seconds everywhere and NO calcification.
I did learn a lesson through this, “GO WITH YOUR GUT” because if I had gone with mine, we wouldn’t have lived with this mess of a system for a year. But isn’t this what life is all about, making mistakes and learning from them? Doesn’t matter how old we are we can always learn something new. Live life well always everyone!

Quando abbiamo acquistato la nostra casa ad Arona abbiamo fatto una grande ristrutturazione. Una cosa che non mi andava bene era il nostro sistema di riscaldamento e acqua perché occupava molto spazio e non riuscivo a capire come funzionasse. Tuttavia, i precedenti proprietari ci hanno detto che il governo ha dato incentivi alcuni anni fa per installare il sistema di pannelli solari in quanto avrebbe consumato molta meno energia. Ne erano contenti. Così, abbiamo deciso di fare un tentativo. Certo, potevamo sempre chiudere la porta e non vederne la bruttezza.
Una volta entrati in casa abbiamo iniziato a vedere alcuni difetti dell'impianto. Ci vorrebbero circa cinque minuti per ottenere l'acqua calda in cucina che si trovava al piano sopra, ci vorrebbe molto più tempo per ottenere l'acqua calda nelle docce. Mentre paghiamo per l'uso dell'acqua in Italia, i nostri soldi andavano giù per lo scarico senza essere utilizzati.
Subito abbiamo iniziato a vedere il calcio bianco accumularsi ovunque. Ora il calcio è molto difficile da togliere dalle cose, quindi ho dovuto stare sopra tutti i lavandini assicurandomi che non si accumulasse su di essi e sugli scarichi. Tuttavia, quando si cucina è una storia diversa, non appena si fa bollire l'acqua le pentole si calcificano e non si riesce a togliere il calcio. Ho dovuto buttare via diverse pentole perché era troppo.
Riscaldare la casa era molto impegnativo, c'erano un timer incorporati quando il riscaldamento si accendeva e si spegneva e nessuno riusciva a capire come fermarli. Pertanto, c'erano momenti in cui la casa era fredda come l'esterno. Per fortuna abbiamo coperte riscaldate.
Ma la cosa peggiore è stata andare nel ripostiglio e trovare roba gialla e appiccicosa schifosa dappertutto. Questo era l'antigelo che era nei pannelli solari e che in qualche modo fuoriusciva dalla caldaia. Sostituire questo costa 1.000 euro all'anno. Quindi, vi dico, quanto risparmio c'è stato in questo sistema?
Pertanto, quando Blu SRL - Eleonora Arreda ha fatto la nostra seconda ristrutturazione, la rimozione di questo sistema era d'obbligo. Ancora una volta Fabio e Lorenzo hanno fatto un ottimo lavoro rimuovendo tutto, aggiungendo nuove canalizzazioni e tubazioni, installando nuove attrezzature e insegnandoci come usarle. Che concetto, abbiamo acqua calda in pochi secondi ovunque e NESSUNA calcificazione.
Ho imparato una lezione attraverso questo, "VAI CON IL TUO ISTINTO" perché se fossi andato con il mio, non avremmo vissuto con questo casino di un sistema per un anno. Ma non è forse questo il senso della vita, commettere errori e imparare da essi? Non importa quanti anni abbiamo, possiamo sempre imparare qualcosa di nuovo. Vivete bene la vita sempre tutti!
