I can hardly believe we are spending our second Christmas in Arona.  It’s amazing how time just flies by and soon enough we will be ringing in 2024.  I never thought I would call any place other than Maple Ridge home, but here we are.  Arona has become home.

Gianni and I enjoyed buying Christmas decorations and making our house festive for the holidays.  The manger has Jesus still covered, because of course he doesn’t come until Christmas day, but our manger is beautiful.  I love looking at it every day.  Thinking about Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men and of course baby Jesus being born in a stable.  The challenges they had to overcome and the reason for the season, something I never want to forget. 

Non riesco a credere che stiamo trascorrendo il nostro secondo Natale ad Arona.  È incredibile come il tempo voli e presto siamo nel 2024.  Non avrei mai pensato di chiamare casa un posto diverso da Maple Ridge, ma eccoci qui.  Arona è diventata casa.

Io e Gianni ci siamo divertiti a comprare decorazioni natalizie e a rendere la nostra casa festosa per le feste.  La mangiatoia ha ancora Gesù coperto, perché ovviamente non viene fino al giorno di Natale, ma il nostra presepe è bellissimo.  Adoro guardarlo ogni giorno.  Pensando a Maria, a Giuseppe, ai Magi e naturalmente a Gesù Bambino che nasce in una stalla.  Le sfide che hanno dovuto superare e il motivo della stagione, qualcosa che non voglio mai dimenticare.

Challenges are something we all are blessed with.  Yes, I say blessed!  Because God knows the challenges we can handle and each of the challenges teaches us something.  I honestly should write a book on all the curve balls I’ve been thrown and what I’ve learned, and maybe one day I will.  But the past few years have been the toughest. 

Having gone through dad’s Alzheimer’s and mom’s dementia, I thought those were the worst years dealing with what the diseases brought and ultimately took away.  Then I decide to retire and start living life traveling and enjoying whatever life Gianni and I had in front of us.  Never would I have believed that our life would change 180 degrees.  But again, we are blessed with challenges we can handle and we have lived through a very dark part of Gianni’s journey, where we needed a miracle to get through the first week. 

18 months later we are living life to the fullest, one moment and one win at a time.  Gianni just finished his 4th and final Arsenic cycle.  He has a bone marrow draw on the tomorrow and from there we leave it in God’s and our angels’ hands, because they bare witness to all that is holy and at Christmas time we believe in miracles and will continue to pray for ours. 

Le sfide sono cosa che tutti noi abbiamo la fortuna di affrontare.  Sì, dico fortuna!  Perché Dio conosce le sfide che possiamo affrontare e ognuna di esse ci insegna qualcosa.  Onestamente dovrei scrivere un libro su tutte le palle curve che mi sono state lanciate e su ciò che ho imparato, e forse un giorno lo farò.  Ma gli ultimi anni sono stati i più duri. 

Avendo attraversato l'Alzheimer di papà e la demenza di mamma, pensavo che quelli fossero gli anni peggiori per affrontare ciò che le malattie portavano e alla fine portavano via.  Poi decido di andare in pensione e iniziare a vivere la vita, viaggiando e godendomi la vita che io e Gianni avevamo davanti.  Non avrei mai creduto che la nostra vita sarebbe cambiata di 180 gradi.  Ma ancora una volta, siamo benedetti con sfide che possiamo gestire e abbiamo vissuto una parte molto buia del viaggio di Gianni, in cui abbiamo avuto bisogno di un miracolo per superare la prima settimana. 

18 mesi dopo stiamo vivendo la vita al massimo, un momento e una vittoria alla volta.  Gianni ha appena terminato il suo 4° e ultimo ciclo di arsenico.  Ha un midollo osseo prelevato domani e da lì lo lasciamo nelle mani di Dio e dei nostri angeli, perché loro testimoniano tutto ciò che è santo e nel tempo di Natale crediamo nei miracoli e continueremo a pregare per i nostri. 

Over top of the kitchen sink are our Santa’s, because it wouldn’t be Christmas without a bit of magic from Santa.  A lonely Charlie Brown tree sits above them in all its wonder, and we have a forest of trees on the dining room unit as well as a gnome party.  The fridge is adorned with family photos and a Buon Natale sign.

Sopra il lavello della cucina ci sono i nostri Babbo Natale, perché non sarebbe Natale senza un po' di magia da parte di Babbo Natale.  Un solitario albero di Charlie Brown si erge sopra di loro in tutta la sua meraviglia, e abbiamo una foresta di alberi sull'unità della sala da pranzo cosi come una festa di gnomi. Il frigo è decorato con foto di famiglia e un'insegna del Buon Natale.

Sitting in my recliner I get to be accompanied by the many snowmen, that can’t help but put a smile on my face when I look at their smile.  Throughout the house I have other little splashes of Christmas that make the home festive. 

Seduto sulla mia poltrona reclinabile vengo accompagnato dai tanti pupazzi di neve, che non possono fare a meno di farmi sorridere quando guardo il loro sorriso.  In tutta la casa ho altri piccoli spruzzi di Natale che rendono la casa festosa.

Our dining table is festive but really festive when we have family and friends over for diner.  Lots of food, drinks, and laughs are had when you gather loved ones and enjoy the company.

Il nostro tavolo da pranzo è festoso, ma davvero festoso quando abbiamo la famiglia e gli amici per cena.  Un sacco di cibo, bevande e risate si fanno quando si riunisci i propri cari e ci si gode la compagnia.

And finally, my angels are sprinkled a little everywhere.  A batch sit and stand on the dining room unit, a couple in the bathroom and then there is my beautiful Angel Tree.  I started this tradition in November of 2021 in Canada and captured it in the blog “Grateful for the moon, stars and my angels”.   Living in Arona, last year we created a smaller version but still powerful tree and captured it in my blog “Our Christmas Angels – Nostri Angeli di Natale”. 

Year after year, we add more angels and this year three more were added, Frank, Zia Margherita and Steph.  As I added them to the tree, I asked them to continue to bless us with the miracle of life.  To all my angels, I prayed for world peace, health, love, happiness, love of family and friends, challenges that make us stronger, and to continue to be able to blog and live life well always.

E infine, i miei angeli sono sparsi un po' dappertutto.  Un gruppo di sedersi e stare in piedi sull'unità della sala da pranzo, un paio in bagno e poi c'è il mio bellissimo Albero dell'angelo.  Ho iniziato questa tradizione nel novembre del 2021 in Canada e l'ho catturata nel blog "Grato per la luna, le stelle e i miei angeli".   Vivendo ad Arona, l'anno scorso abbiamo creato una versione più piccola ma comunque potente dell'albero e lo scritto nel mio blog "I nostri angeli di Natale". 

Anno dopo anno, aggiungiamo altri angeli e quest'anno se ne sono aggiunti altri tre, Frank, Zia Margherita e Steph.  Quando li ho aggiunti all'albero, ho chiesto loro di continuare a benedirci con il miracolo della vita.  A tutti i miei angeli, ho pregato per la pace nel mondo, la salute, l'amore, la felicità, l'amore per la famiglia e gli amici, le sfide che ci rendono più forti e per continuare a essere in grado di scrivere un blog e vivere la vita bene sempre.

We are ready for the Christmas festivities and of course what life has in store for us.  I am so blessed to have the love of my life to be by my side and every day I thank God and my angels for that continued miracle.  We are doubly blessed to have Crystal, Chris, Ariana and Ruxin here to celebrate with us.  From our family to yours we wish you a very Merry Christmas, full of your own miracles and cherished memories.  

To Angela, Ian, Brody, Blake, Steven, Sarah, Weston and Jameson, we miss you more than life but we know you will cherish the memories you make and hopefully one day we will all be together. For now, we are in with you in heart and spirit. We love you to the moon and stars and all our angels in between. 

Siamo pronti per le festività natalizie e, naturalmente, per ciò che la vita ci ha destinato.  Sono così fortunata ad avere l'amore della mia vita al mio fianco e ogni giorno ringrazio Dio e i miei angeli per quel miracolo.  Siamo doppiamente fortunati ad avere Crystal, Chris, Ariana e Ruxin qui per festeggiare con noi.  Dalla nostra famiglia alla vostra, vi auguriamo un Buon Natale, pieno dei vostri miracoli e dei vostri cari ricordi.

Ad Angela, Ian, Brody, Blake, Steven, Sarah, Weston e Jameson, ci mancate più della vita, ma sappiamo che custodirete i ricordi che farete e speriamo che un giorno saremo tutti insieme. Per ora siamo con voi nel cuore e nello spirito. Ti amiamo fino alla luna e alle stelle e a tutti i nostri angeli nel mezzo.
