During Gianni’s last arsenic therapy cycle I went with him to the hospital and while he was doing his treatment, I walked to the Cathedral of Novara. Named, Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, and also known as Duomo di Novara, its grandiose building is located on Piazza della Republica and holds the seat of the Bishop of Novara.
Early history for this site shows it was the pagan temple of Jupiter but around the 4th century the Christian Basilica to Santa Maria was built and in 397, Bishop Simplicianus consecrated Bishop Gaudenzio as the first bishop of Novara. In the following centuries the cathedral was remodeled and enlarged several times. By the 12th century the original building was torn down and a Romanesque style church was consecrated on April 17, 1132 by Pope Innocent II.
Throughout the centuries this building went through many restorations but architect Alessandro Antonelli designed the current Neo-Classical cathedral between 1863 – 1869. The cathedral incorporates a mosaic floor in the presbytery and a chapel dedicated to Saint Syrus from the previous church. The baptistry is a separate structure but functional part of the cathedral. It dates back to the 4th-5th centuries.
As I walked through this beautiful cathedral, I stopped at the alter and prayed to God and my angels. Novara has become a haven for me because of Gianni’s fight against APL leukemia. I continue to pray the wonderful doctors, nurses and everyone else that works at Novara Major Hospital for Charity continue to help him survive.
I know I’ve stated it before but it is worth reiterating, at this hospital we are treated as family, not a number. The love they have for what they do and to give a meaningful life to all their patients is unbelievable. We are blessed beyond words to live in this region that has such amazing care. Today Gianni starts his fourth and final cycle of arsenic therapy and I continue to pray to God and my angels that he fights it with everything he has and kicks leukemia’s ass.

Duomo di Novara
L'ultimo ciclo di terapia dell'arsenico io sono andata con Gianni a l’ospedale e mentre faceva il suo trattamento, ho camminato fino al Duomo di Novara. Chiamata Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, il suo grandioso edificio si trova in Piazza della Repubblica e ospita la sede del Vescovo di Novara.
La storia antica di questo sito mostra che era il tempio pagano di Giove, ma intorno al IV secolo fu costruita la Basilica cristiana di Santa Maria e nel 397, il vescovo Simpliciano consacrò il vescovo Gaudenzio come primo vescovo di Novara. Nei secoli successivi la cattedrale fu più volte ristrutturate e ingrandita. Nel XII secolo l'edificio originale fu demolito e una chiesa in stile romanico fu consacrata il 17 aprile 1132 da papa Innocenzo II.
Nel corso dei secoli questo edificio ha subito molti restauri, ma l'architetto Alessandro Antonelli ha progettato l'attuale cattedrale neoclassica tra il 1863 e il 1869. La cattedrale incorpora un pavimento a mosaico nel presbiterio e una cappella dedicata a San Siro della chiesa precedente. Il battistero è una struttura separata ma funzionale della cattedrale. Risale al IV-V secolo.
Mentre camminavo nel questa bellissima cattedrale, mi sono fermata all'altare e ho pregato a Dio e i miei angeli. Novara è diventata un rifugio per me grazie alla lotta di Gianni contro la leucemia APL. Continuo a pregare che i meravigliosi medici, infermieri e tutti coloro che lavorano al Ospedale Maggiore della Carità Novara continuino ad aiutarlo a sopravvivere.
So di averlo già detto in passato, ma vale la pena ribadirlo, in questo ospedale siamo trattati come una famiglia, non come un numero. L'amore che hanno per quello che fanno e per dare una vita significativa a tutti i loro pazienti è incredibile. Siamo benedetti a vivere in questa regione che ha una cura così straordinaria. Oggi Gianni inizia il suo quarto e ultimo ciclo di terapia con arsenico e io continuo a pregare a Dio e i miei angeli che combatta con tutto quello che ha e prenda a calcio nel culo la leucemia.
Ricordati di vivere la vita bene sempre perché abbiamo solo una vita da vivere. Baci e abbracci dall'Italia.
