Meditation - Give it 10 Minutes

Allowing space for our emotions to be explored is very powerful. Understanding why we are sad or happy, why we are stressed or calm, allows us to focus on what emotional wellness we want to achieve.

However many of us have trouble connecting with our emotions directly, even if we know which emotion we are experiencing. Meditation can help with tapping into our emotions and in turn get some great benefits for our mind and body.

Did you know there is medical benefits if we meditate for 10 minutes per day? Here are some reasons why we need to give our body 10 minutes:

  • It reduces stress - our body produces cortisol when we are stressed. While we meditate, we are able get into a deep state of relaxation and have a tranquil mind therefore reduce the effects of cortisol and level of stress to our bodies

  • Lessens anxiety - meditation helps to reduce worrying thoughts and brings about a feeling of balance, calm, and focus which helps lessen effects of anxiety

  • Promotes self-awareness - when we learn to understand our emotional patters we can become self-aware of what is going on and self-adjust as required

  • Improve our attention span - it is proven that meditating can change the structure and function of the brain through relaxation, which increases focus and learning concentration, which can improve memory and attention span. This can also help with age-related memory loss

  • Can help us sleep better - as a relaxation technique, it can quiet the mind and body while enhancing inner peace, which in turn allows us to sleep better

  • May help reduce pain - some studies show when we meditate, we are relaxing our mind and body, and that leads to the release of endorphins or 'feel-good' hormones which help with pain control

  • Lower blood pressure - meditating daily can lower blood pressure and reduce dependence on medication. It is believed relaxation techniques increase the formation of nitric oxide which helps opens up blood vessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure
