As I’m not a fan of seafood, I look to others to share their recipes and Lianne my sister-in-law makes this recipe at family dinners and everyone loves the calamari and the tzatziki she makes. Thank you Lianne!
Ingredients
2 – 3 packages squid (around 680 grams and can use rings, tubes and tentacles)
2 – 3 cups milk
1 – 2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp onion salt
2 tsp salt
2 cups flour (may need more)
2 tsp salt
2 – 3 bottles oil for deep fryer
½ cup chopped red onion
1 lemon cut into wedges
Directions
Rinse squid well and cut to tubes to reflect rings
In a medium bowl combine milk, garlic, parsley, onion and salt
Stir in calamari and mix well
Make sure squid is fully immersed in milk mixture
Refrigerate minimum four hours but preferably overnight
When ready to make calamari combine well flour and salt in a large bowl
*Note you may need more flour for dredging
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Dredge (lightly coat) squid and place on baking sheet
Heat deep fryer to 375°F (domestic home use deep fryer)
Deep fry until squid is golden brown
Transfer to a paper towel lined plate to soak extra oil
Place calamari on platter and sprinkle red onion and add lemon wedges
Serve with Lianne's Tzatziki recipe
