Exhausted from our travel day we had a great sleep at the hotel and got up at 7am and went for a 40 minute walk around the little town of Somma Lombardo. Unless you have been to Italy you won't know what I mean when I say "it is wonderful to smell Italy again". There is something in the air that mixes together with the homes wood burning fireplaces that has a very distinctive smell, and that aroma brings back many cherished memories.
After our walk we had the traditional breakfast of cappuccino's and croissants with a little yogurt and oats. We packed up the Audi and headed to Stresa via the scenic Lago Maggiore route.
There are so many twists and turns on SS33 that I couldn't take many photos but was able to get the entrance to Stresa.
Once in Stresa, we spent a few hours unpacking and getting the apartment organized. Had to also ensure we brought some memories of home.
We then went next door to the grocery store and picked up a few necessities. Once our apartment was personalized we drove to Arona to meet Chris. We had to go to Vodofone to get an eSIM for our Italian numbers. eSIMS are electronic SIM cards that allow our cell phones to have dual SIM capabilities. Therefore a Canadian and Italian number. We just have to choose which SIM we want to use. Only issue is they didn't have any eSIMs and wouldn't get them until Tuesday. Because we couldn't wait until then they give us SIM cards which we physically have to remove our old one and add the new one in.
Well I'm not to sure on how that will impact my set up so Gianni is the guinea pig and made the change to new SIM. So far things look good, but all his messages show numbers instead of names, so he is trying to figure out who is who in the phone zoo. So I wait to install mine....LOL
We then had a nice walk on the Arona boardwalk, went to Superstore to do some shopping and then had dinner and drinks. All in all we clocked in over 20,000 steps and had a great sun filled 22 degrees weather day.
