Because I Can

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

For those that don't know Blake is my second grandson. He absolutely loves sports and hockey is his favourite. He cheers for Vegas Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks and has many jerseys of other teams as well. His passion and drive for all the sports he plays is commendable and I love watching everything he does. Due to COVID this summer we have been spoiled with lots of family time. We have enjoyed our kids and grandsons more than ever. The cabin has been especially memorable as we have spent many weekends there. Pool time, water balloon fights, learning new crib game called Crib Wars, cooking up a storm and playing hockey with my six year old Blake. I've come a long way with my health and my body said sure you can play hockey with Blake. But boy was it ever hard to keep up to him. After an hour of running back and forth he beat me 9 to 6. I tell you my six were hard come by. He is amazingly fast and this old body was struggling but I pushed it to the limit and kept playing and laughing. I had a lot of fun and when I asked him if he did, he said nonna it was the best. Of course because he beat me! That evening I couldn't move. I couldn't be out with everyone by the fire because my back and hip wouldn't move. Therefore I sat in my recliner with the heating blanket under me and contemplated what I had done. Why would I do something that would cause me so much pain? The answer was simple "Because I can"! And pain goes away but the lasting memory of that day will last me a lifetime. I thank Blake for teaching me that life is about all we CAN do. Not what we can't. Sometimes we struggle but boy is it worth it. Be well everyone and do what you can every day!
