We live in the beautiful lakeside town of Arona and I have done several posts of the area. This on Arona – Lago Maggiore was done before I started writing my blogs in dual language and when we were tourists before Gianni’s APL Leukemia diagnosis. Wow how our life has changed but we are blessed to have been stranded on this lakeside town that has now become our home.
Today I want to give thanks to all the workers in Arona that keep this town beautiful. I’m more than amazed the work they do all year round to keep everything pristine so when the tourist come, and believe me they come all year round, they find a town that is clean, inviting, and nothing is out of place.
Viviamo nella bellissima cittadina lacustre di Arona e ho pubblicato diversi post sulla zona. Questo su Arona – Lago Maggiore è stato fatto prima che iniziassi a scrivere i miei blog in doppia lingua e quando eravamo turisti prima della diagnosi di leucemia APL di Gianni. Wow, come è cambiata la nostra vita, ma siamo fortunati ad essere rimasti bloccati in questa città lacustre che ora è diventata la nostra casa.
Oggi voglio ringraziare tutti i lavoratori di Arona che mantengono bella questa città. Sono più che stupito del lavoro che fanno tutto l'anno per mantenere tutto immacolato, quindi quando arrivano i turisti, e credetemi, vengono tutto l'anno, trovano una città pulita, invitante e niente è fuori posto.

Every year that I have been here they have trimmed the trees on Arona city property. The first time I saw them do it, I thought WOW they cut them right down and was afraid they wouldn’t come back. But come back they did, full of life and amazing colours.
Ogni anno che sono stato qui hanno tagliato gli alberi nella proprietà comunale di Arona. La prima volta che li ho visti farlo, ho pensato WOW, li avevano tagliati molto e avevo paura che non tornavano. Ma sono tornati, pieni di vita e di splendidi colori.

As we walk the lakeside there is a part of the lake that has an incredible wisteria pergola. In the spring it becomes the most stunning pergola, full of flowers and with the lake on its side, absolutely beautiful. This winter the city closed down the pergola walk for a few weeks to remove the wooden trusses and replace them with aluminum structure.
Mentre percorriamo il lungolago c'è una parte del lago che ha un incredibile pergolato di glicine. In primavera diventa il pergolato più bello, pieno di fiori e con il lago dalla sua parte, assolutamente bellissimo. Quest'inverno la città ha chiuso il pergolato per alcune settimane per rimuovere le capriate in legno e sostituirle con una struttura in alluminio

The cleaning crew never stop cleaning. In the early morning the garbage and recycling crews come around to pick up what we put out. The garbage and recycling program is one of the best I’ve seen. On Tuesday’s we put out garbage and they pick it up, on Wednesday it is plastics, glass and organics, Saturday it is cardboard and paper, tin and aluminum and organics. On a yearly basis, we go to the city and pick up bags for each of the items. We also have access to the dump which we can bring any big items, garden trimmings, grass, electronics and garbage.
La squadra di pulizia non smettono mai di pulire. Al mattino presto le squadre di raccolta rifiuti e riciclaggio vengono a raccogliere ciò che abbiamo buttato fuori. Il programma di raccolta rifiuti e riciclaggio è uno dei migliori che abbia mai visto. Martedì buttiamo fuori la spazzatura e loro la raccolgono, mercoledì plastica, vetro e umido, sabato cartone e carta, stagno, alluminio e umido. Ogni anno andiamo in città e raccogliamo le borse per ciascuno degli articoli. Abbiamo anche accesso alla discarica dove possiamo portare oggetti di grandi dimensioni, guarnizioni del giardino, erba, dispositivi elettronici e spazzatura.

Riding a bike on Arona streets got easier in April of 2023 when the city received funding from the Piedmont Region for a cycle path. This path should connect the nearby town of Dormelletto to Arona and the intent is to connect several other towns on Lago Maggiore. As we walk the promenade there are many existing bike paths but these past few months, several others have been added to give bikers a safer place to ride when coming through Arona.
Andare in bicicletta per le strade di Arona è diventato più facile nell'aprile del 2023 quando la città ha ricevuto un finanziamento dalla Regione Piemonte per una pista ciclabile. Questo percorso dovrebbe collegare il vicino comune di Dormelletto ad Arona e l'intento è quello di collegare diversi altri paesi del Lago Maggiore. Mentre percorriamo il lungomare ci sono molte piste ciclabili esistenti ma negli ultimi mesi ne sono state aggiunte molte altre per offrire ai ciclisti un posto più sicuro dove pedalare quando attraversano Arona.

When the weather was better the city was having bridges repaired and painted, mirrors put up and plants refreshed in all the flower beds. I’m sure there is a lot more going on that I’m don’t see because as I walk, I see so much beauty all around. If you ever have a chance to visit this little piece of paradise, the town will be ready to host you in all its beauty.
Quando il tempo era migliore, la città faceva riparare e ridipingere i ponti, montare specchi e rinfrescare le piante in tutte le aiuole. Sono sicuro che ci sia molto altro da fare che non vedo perché mentre cammino, vedo così tanta bellezza tutt'intorno. Se mai avrete la possibilità di visitare questo piccolo angolo di paradiso, la cittadina sarà pronta ad ospitarvi in tutta la sua bellezza.
